About Number Rush

Number Rush is a timed mental-maths game. You get 60 seconds to answer as many quick number challenges as you can, choosing each answer from a short list. It starts with simple addition and subtraction and, as you keep getting answers right, brings in multiplication, division, missing numbers, number sequences, percentages and mixed operations.

It rewards both speed and accuracy. Harder challenges are worth more points, quick answers earn a small bonus and a streak of right answers multiplies your points, but every wrong answer resets the streak, eases the difficulty and takes two seconds off the clock, so guessing costs more than it gains.

Scoring

  • Easy challenge: 10 points
  • Medium challenge: 20 points
  • Hard challenge: 30 points
  • Answer within 2 seconds: +5 points
  • Answer within 4 seconds: +2 points
  • Streak of 3 / 5 / 10: ×1.1 / ×1.25 / ×1.5
  • Wrong answer: 0 points, −2 seconds

Tips for a higher score

  • Round and adjust: for 49 + 27, think 50 + 27 − 1.
  • Use the choices: the wrong answers are close, so check the last digit before you tap.
  • For sequences, look at the gaps between the numbers first; if they grow, look at how they grow.
  • Percentages of round numbers are quick: 10% moves the decimal point, 25% is a quarter, 50% is half.
  • Accuracy beats speed. A wrong answer costs two seconds and your streak, so take a breath on the hard ones.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play Number Rush?

Press Start, then answer each maths challenge by tapping one of the choices or pressing 1 to 4 on a keyboard. The next challenge appears immediately. When the 60-second clock runs out, you see your score, accuracy and best streak.

How is the score calculated?

Each right answer earns 10, 20 or 30 points depending on the difficulty, plus a small bonus for answering within two or four seconds. Streaks of 3, 5 and 10 right answers multiply the points by 1.1, 1.25 and 1.5. Wrong answers earn nothing, reset the streak and take two seconds off the clock.

Does it get harder?

Yes. Every few right answers the challenges step up: bigger numbers, then missing numbers, sequences, percentages and mixed operations. A wrong answer steps the difficulty back down a little, so it adapts to you.

Do I need an account to play?

No. Anyone can play for free. A free Brainizz account saves your scores, adds the XP you earn to your Brainizz total and puts you on the Number Rush leaderboard.

How is XP awarded?

Signed-in players earn 1 XP for every 40 points, up to 40 XP a run. Brain games can add up to 100 XP a day to your total, and that XP counts on the main Brainizz leaderboard too.

How does the leaderboard rank players?

By each player’s best run: highest score first, then accuracy, then the number of right answers. You can view today, this week or all time.
